Upcoming Classes

How many students are in each class?
Classes in Ballard are limited to six students.

What if the classes are full, when will the next session be?
If the class is full, sign up for the waitlist and be sure to indicate your preferred days and times. I will launch new cohorts of the workshop on a rolling basis based on interest.

What kind of movement will we be doing?

Movement warm-ups are based on the BrainDance and Bartenieff Fundamentals. They are holistic movement sequences that replicate movement patterns that babies move through in their first year of life to wire the nervous system. Returning to these patterns throughout our lives helps

integrate mind and body and re-awaken senses that we may have been dampened or tuned out.

Do I need a dance background?
No. You do not need to have any particular movement experience, but you do need to be willing to move and improvise with your body. The movement sequences we do are highly adaptable for people of all abilities. If you have any particular movement limitations please let me know so I can accommodate.

Do I need to be an artist to participate?

No particular artistic talent or creative habit is required, but students should have an active interest in bringing new forms of creativity into their daily lives.

Is there homework?

Yes. Short daily writing assignments are paired with weekly prompts to help you practice paying attention, observe your surroundings in a new way, spark inspiration, and rediscover joy in the everyday. The assignments are meant to help you establish new creative habits and are designed to be manageable for working & parenting adults. Your experiences trying out the assignments will be discussed in the following class.

How should I dress and what do I need to bring to class?

Wear comfortable clothes that you can move freely in. There is some rolling and moving on our sides on the floor, so you may want to pick pants without heavy side pockets or thick side seams. We will move barefoot. Bring a water bottle and your preferred writing instrument (pen or pencil). Notebooks will be provided in the first class, you’ll need to bring them to every class.
